Notice of Construction: Oxford Road 54 (Huron Street) Reconstruction - Phase 1 from Devonshire Ave to Ingersoll Ave

Oxford County has awarded a contract to Viewcon Construction Ltd. for work that generally includes the following:

  • Road reduction to one lane in each direction, with one shared centre turn lane
  • Traffic signal installation at the intersection of Devonshire Avenue and Ingersoll Avenue
  • Storm and sanitary sewer replacement
  • Watermain replacement
  • Road base replacement
  • Curb, gutter and sidewalk installation (both sides of the road)
  • Repaving and line painting
  • Restoration of boulevards and driveways

TRAFFIC CONTROL
Huron St. will be closed from Devonshire Ave. to Ingersoll Ave. during construction to accommodate the outlined work. A planned detour via Springbank Ave. will manage traffic and also afford continued access for emergency response vehicles. The contractor is required to ensure access for local residents and businesses is maintained at all times. There may be short periods when the construction crews are working immediately in front of a driveway when access may be restricted temporarily.

EMERGENCY SERVICES, SCHOOL BOARDS AND BUSES
Emergency services, school boards and buses will be notified of all road closures and lane restrictions.

GARBAGE & RECYCLING
On garbage and recycling collection days, continue to place your garbage and recycling out at the roadside as usual. The contractor will be responsible for collecting garbage and recycling and moving it to a central area for pick up when access is restricted in certain areas. Please mark your house number on garbage and recycling containers to ensure they are returned to the correct address.

WATER INTERRUPTIONS
Residents within the work area can expect both planned and unplanned water interruptions. Every attempt will be made to notify customers in advance.

COVID-19
The County, and all contractors/sub-contractors working on behalf of the County, are committed to following the recommended precautionary measures within other safety imperatives to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Oxford County is continually monitoring this situation as it develops and the ongoing challenges related to the spread of COVID-19. The work being undertaken on this project has been deemed essential to County infrastructure and is considered essential as per the provincial directives and mandates. An Oxford County inspector will be on site periodically performing inspection of contractors work and monitoring site activities.
