Garbage Collection

All residents in the County of Oxford receive weekly curbside collection. Municipal staff collects recycling in Woodstock and South West Oxford. The remaining portion of the County is contracted out to Waste Services Inc. All of the garbage collected across the County goes to the County of Oxford landfill.

Your Garbage Day:

  • Your collection day will be different depending on where you reside in the County
  • Please remember: If your regular collection day happens to be on a holiday (such as Labour day), there will be a change in your collection day. You can find out more information in the Holiday Collection portion of this website. Also, watch for notices in your local newspapers or call your local municipal office for information.

Setting out your Garbage

  • Ensure your garbage is placed out to the curb by 7:00am on your collection day
  • If your garbage is not out when the collection vehicle goes by, it will not come back to collect your garbage.
  • Garbage must be placed no further than 1 meter (3 feet) from the curb or traveled portion of the road.
  • All garbage must have a County of Oxford Garbage Bag Tag.
  • There is no limit to the number of bags you put out, as long as they are tagged.
  • If your garbage is unacceptable, it will not be collected and a notice as to why it was not accepted will be left.

Bag Tags on your Garbage

  • Tags must be stuck on the top half of the garbage bag or be on top of the bundles so it can be seen by the collector
  • The tag can be applied either around the neck of the bag, folded over and the ends stuck together or flat on the bag
  • If both ends of the tag are not visible, the garbage will not be collected
  • Do not use the tag as a tie for the garbage bag, if it breaks or rips it will not be accepted
  • If using a reusable rigid container, the tag(s) must be securely stuck on top of the loose material that is in the container
  • Tags must not be attached to the container. Tag(s) attached to the container will not be collected

User Pay Bag Tag Program

  • Bag Tags can be purchased from over 70 locations across the County of Oxford
  • Complete list of BAG TAG VENDORS.
  • The self adhesive bag tags cost $1.25 ($1.50 as of May 1st, 2010 onward) each for cash sales. Bag tags purchased with debit card, credit card, cheque or method other than cash is subject to store policy.
  • There is no tax on bag tags.

One Bag Tag is needed for:

  • Each bag, maximum size of 76 cm x 96 cm (30 in x 36 in) and maximum weight of 20 kg (44 lbs)
  • Each rigid container less than 128 litres in size with a maximum weight of 20 kg (44 lbs)
  • Each bundle of material no longer than 96 cm (36 in), securely bound with a maximum weight of 20 kg (44 lbs)

Two Bag Tags needed for:

  • Large sized bags, "each larger than 76cm x 96cm (30"x36")".
  • Each rigid container between 129 and 240 litres in size and a maximum weight of 20 kg (44 lbs)

Three Bag Tags needed for:

  • Each rigid container larger than 240 litres (Hurbie Curbie)
  • Note:  Herbie Curbies cannot be used between December and March.
