Childhood is a time when feeding can be very challenging. Children’s food choices directly affect their growth and development and academic performance. Eating habits are established at an early age and preschoolers are especially vulnerable to poor nutrition.
NutriSTEP® is a validated nutrition risk screening tool that identifies preschoolers aged 3 to 5 years at risk for poor nutrition. It is a multi-ethnic, bilingual questionnaire that parents can complete in 5 minutes. Children are then given a score – those who receive a score greater than 26 should seek a referral to a health care provider.
For more information, or a copy of the NutriSTEP® screening tool, call Oxford County Public Health and talk to our Registered Dietitian at 519-539-9800 extension 3448.
