Oxford Health Matters Survey

Survey of 500 Oxford County residents about their health will help shape the future of Public Health programs

This fall, Oxford County Public Health will be conducting a survey to learn more about the health needs and concerns of the community.

The Oxford Health Matters Survey will be conducted from September - December, 2016 by York University's Institute of Social Research. The survey will involve 500 adults over the age of 18 in Oxford. Extra effort will be made to connect with younger adults under 30 years old.

Oxford County Public Health would appreciate if residents would take the time to complete the survey, as the information will be valuable in developing public health programs in new and emerging areas based on the needs and concerns of the community.

Who will be selected to participate in the survey?

Starting on September 6, 2016, households in Oxford will be selected at random and will be mailed a letter. The letter from Acting Medical Officer of Health Dr. Douglas Neal will introduce the survey and encourage residents to participate.

Those households may then receive a phone call from York University's Institute of Social Research, asking one adult in the household to participate in the survey, which should take about 15 minutes to complete.

Residents who participate can be assured their responses are confidential, and no identifying information will be stored with their responses to the questions.

This process will continue until 500 residents have provided responses.

Why is Public Health conducting the Health Matters Survey?

The Oxford Health Matters Survey is a commitment made by Oxford County Public Health as part of the Beachville Area Air Quality Assessment Action Plan.

Aside from air quality, there are other emerging health topics that will be covered in the survey.

Survey topics will include, among others:

  • Air quality and health
  • Flu vaccination
  • Lyme disease
  • Mental health
  • Neighbourhood design and health
  • Use of electronic cigarettes

The Oxford Matters Health Survey is expected to be completed by the end of December, with results being made available to the public in early 2017.
