Council this Week: Highlights from September 13 County Council Agenda
Solar Oxford Challenge, Multi-residential tax ratio reduction and more.
Solar Oxford Challenge
County Council will review the proposal for the Solar Oxford Challenge next Council meeting, a program that would provide 16 residents or businesses from across Oxford’s eight municipalities with up to $500 in financial incentives to adopt technologies or measures that help them achieve “net zero” energy usage in one year. If approved, the pilot program, which was designed using local research conducted by a team of Western University Ivey Business School MBA students, will launch in the fall of 2017 with solar installations expected to follow in early 2018. Costs of the program are estimated at $13,000 for the first year of operation.

Multi-residential tax ratio reduction
An update on the County’s multi-residential tax ratio reduction will be presented to County Council on September 13. The County is currently in the first year of a four-year migration to reduce the multi-residential tax ratio to the Province’s new maximum threshold of 2.0 %, reducing its rate from 2.74 to 2.555 in 2017. The lower multi-residential tax ratio lessens the burden on tenants who rely on rental housing while creating an incentive for landlords to develop more affordable housing in our communities.
